It usually arrives as a short, formal letter: your provider is discontinuing your service as of some date this fall, please make other arrangements. If the shutoff date passes, or the account gets cancelled early, the numbers can be gone for good, the ones on your signs, your trucks, your website, your Google listing. A port takes roughly one to three weeks once paperwork is in, so a mid-fall deadline is closer than it looks.
What to do, in order
One: do not cancel anything. The old service must stay active until the port completes, we sequence that so nothing drops. Two: find a recent bill, it has the account number the port needs. Three: get the port filed. That is the whole list, and we handle the third step for you.
